It's getting to that time of year when trails can rule supreme!

I always read about North American and European trails being unrideable for much of the year with snow during winter but nothing can compare to the total destruction that hard, heavy, constant rain will do to dirt... it destroys bitumen roads so what chance do piles of soil have...

Still somehow the trails seem to have survived this year!... it would usually have stopped raining by now but it's mid april and still it's coming down! All the same we checked out the situation down there with amazing over-growth all through the place!

Tom takes to the power tools to free the jumps from nature's grip.

All seems well but the hard work of having running jumps will always remain!

Still... we can't wait! hope to see you there!

The BMX FOR FLOODS jam went down at Rapid Creek on Sunday 20th with a great turnout and amazing vibe all through the day! We even attracted plenty of non-bmx related spectators and no less than 4 different photographers stopping by! We raised $1680 for the cause but we consider this to be a running total because more donated product showed up in the week after the event and bad weather kept a few (soft) people away!... definitely an amazing total for such a small city with more to come! A special mention needs to be made to Mags Hnarris, Paul Bennett and Chris Youell for their efforts on the day! It could not have happened without them. The event made the statewide paper, the NT News and i even received a personal letter from the NT Parliament's leader of the opposition, Terry Mills MLA.

The Territory Wide Newspaper NT NEWS even came down today and shot photos for a story!

carpark is a bit stuffed with potholes but they filled most of them...

For anyone that is not currently in Darwin experiencing this wild weather first hand there has been a Tropical Low Pressure system over Darwin for the last few days and we have had an enormous amount of rain! Now it seems likely that this storm will move northwards and intensify into a Cyclone. A "Cyclone Watch" has been issued and we are already experiencing some pretty severe conditions as it is and as of 10pm tonight (Tuesday) they have closed some major arterial roads throughout Darwin City and much of the rural area is flooded.

I have to say that this kind of weather is not unusual at this time of year in Darwin. This IS the tropical north of Australia and severe weather of many kinds is simply a fact of life in this region.

Sunday the 20th Feb will see the BMX FOR FLOODS JAMs being held right across the entire country!

This is a fundraising event! It's an opportunity for everyone with a love of BMX and riding to get together and sacrifice something for people that have lost so much! There has been an enormous amount of product donated! Alot of this stuff will go on sale at the event!

Grips, Pedals, Stickers, Shirts, Hats all cheap with 100% of the money going to the cause!

There is a Raffle! $5 a ticket or 3 for $12! with prises of a Custom complete bike, a fork and bar combo and shirt and sticker pack! amazing prises worth well over $2000 on their own!

Participation on the day will require a donation as well and there will be food and drinks available to buy with ALL of that money also going to the cause!

Because of the amazing generosity of many companies around Australia every cent that comes out of your pocket on the day will go to the Premier's Disaster Relief Fund. (this is a registered event)

The national target for this event is $20000! and with 9 locations our share in Darwin is at least $2000! and this would only just match the donations made to make this day happen! So definitely dig deep! Raid your change collect! raid the ashtray in ya car! scrap as much together as you can so Darwin can stand up with the rest of Australia's BMXers!

Wayne vs The Big Jump

so on a lazy, rainy sunday we took the chance and drove WAY out of town to the rural area to check out some big jumps that were in the making... we only expected to find a few piles of mud and some inspiration but instead we found a smooth, well formed dirt lip and landing amongst the over grown grass and weeds. With a quick once over with the slasher and some hard core shovel work the boys had it ready to test...

and there is nothing harder than being the first one over a new jump.

after a slight case and then a slide out and end-over on the run in, due to a over excited puppy getting in the mix, Wayne hit the big set a few times and we called it a day before more rain set in.

Many thanks to Stuart for having us and to his old man for the tractor work!

Jed Cheyne at Mission Australia put together this years RIDE!forlife Event at Leanyer Park and it all went down Saturday! Lots of riding! Heaps of good times! It was HOT and it was WINDY but everything still went down according to plan.

DON'T FORGET! this saturday is the RIDE!forlife event at Leanyer Park! free food and drinks, free stuff, music, stickers, sponsored riders doing demos and hanging out! and a comp! win a free bike or a frame or some parts thanks to STOWAWAY DISTRIBUTION SPOKESNT and NT ELITE

YOU MUST WEAR A HELMET - it's a fact of life at any big event or any private skatepark in the entire world so wear one. deal with it. if you don't have a helmet then borrow one. there will be extras around on the day don't worry.

YOU MUST SIGN A WAIVER! - if you are under 18 then your parents/guardian must sign it. it's a permission slip and you must have one. they are available at SPOKESNT and possibly NT ELITE cycle and skate and also at the event on the day.

The crew from Stowaway are already in town! They were spotted at Mindil Beach Markets on fireworks night! So look out for them shredding a park or street spot near YOU!

and if you don't check it out regularly NIGHTFALL over in Cairns has a blog that rules!!! and they are having a JAM at some really awesome trails with topless chics and lights and drinking and riding ofcourse!

but this weekend it's all about V8 Supercars (at Hidden Valley here in Darwin) and this gig!

but in actual Darwin BMX related news SPOKES have expanded their shop and now have a whole room dedicated to bmx! "The all new BMX only show room is now operational!!" according to their website! I haven't had a chance to check it out yet but i've spoken to some people that have and they are pretty stoked!

There's a SALE on that ends this weekend so probably be a good time to go have a look.
